Clients & Services

Our clients are what motivate us and are as diverse as the programs we provide. They have soft tissue, orthopaedic, spinal cord, and/or brain injuries that have impacted their lives. We also assist people with chronic pain and mental illness. Regardless of what brings a client to us, at JR Rehab, we see the person, not the injury or illness. Our rehabilitation programs are designed to be client centred, goal-oriented, and focused completely on the unique needs of each individual; there is no "cookie cutter" approach.

We work with a wide range of ages including young adults to seniors. We provide services throughout the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Victoria, and the surrounding area.

Rehabilitation Services and Insurance Claims

JR Rehab works with insurance companies to provide a variety of programs and services to best suit an individual's unique and changing needs. We also manage and contain the costs of the rehabilitation process. We assist clients in their return to full, productive and active lives. Our rehabilitation programs can include:

Life Skills: We assist individuals in regaining competence with activities of daily living. We teach and guide them to use adaptive aids or strategies so that they can perform tasks such as dressing, cooking and accessing their community.

Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP): The PGAP is the first disability prevention program specifically designed to target psychosocial risk factors associated with illness and/or injury. This 10-week, life-role reintegration and activity mobilization program is suitable for clients who are suffering from persistent pain conditions, mental health conditions or chronic illness and for whom pain symptoms and psychosocial factorsare significant barriers to rehabilitation progress. With the focus on return to work initiatives, the PGAP has produced positive results for individuals suffering from chronic musculoskeletal conditions (whiplash, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis), mental health conditions (depression, post traumatic stress disorder), and chronic illness (cancer, renal failure, diabetes). The PGAP was designed to complement existing clinical services for the treatment of debilitating health and mental health conditions.

Physical Conditioning: Building physical strength, endurance and coordination is vital in managing disability. We create adapted fitness programs so that individuals gain optimal physical abilities in order to resume many of their pre-injury activities. We also assist with physical readiness for their return to work following injury.

Cognitive Assessment and Retraining: Establishing some baseline measurements of cognitive function can be an essential guideline for rehabilitation interventions. JR Rehab designs cognitive programs that use both restorative and adaptive methods to compensate for a person's cognitive limitations following injury, illness or disease.

Our approach is unique in that clients are not required to travel to a clinic for treatment. Instead, we incorporate our rehabilitation programs in the individual's home, community or work place. As a result, when the rehabilitation program is complete, the individual will be able to continue on their own and not be dependent upon a clinic. This way, they continue to incorporate an active and healthy program into their daily work and personal life.

Hospital Discharge Planning and Home Assessments

Our Occupational Therapists provide hospital discharge planning and a home assessment in order to ensure that a patient's transition from hospital-to-home happens smoothly. A JR Occupational Therapist assesses the need for adaptive equipment, modifications to the home or the need for support services such as a Care Worker or Nurse.

Case Management Services

Case managing a client's rehabilitation needs can be performed by one of our experienced JR Rehab Occupational Therapists. Based on an assessment of the client's functional abilities and their medical/rehabilitation needs, a JR Rehab Occupational Therapist designs a treatment plan and assembles/coordinates other rehabilitation specialists such as Physiotherapists, Care Workers, Psychologists, Counselors or Medical Specialists. Facilitating communication between the multidisciplinary team members and doctors ensures that everyone is working together for the client's recovery with the ultimate goal of returning them to an independent and productive life.

Return to Work and Job Site Evaluation Services

Our Occupational Therapists treat individuals whose ability to function in a work environment has been impaired by illness, injury or disease. We evaluate the work environment, plan work activities and arrange graduated-return-to-work programs with employers. We often collaborate with clients and their employers to modify the work environment and work duties so that work can be successfully completed. We incorporate work simulation tasks into a client's exercise program so they learn correct body mechanics and appropriate postural alignment thus reducing their risk of re-injury upon their return to work.

Ergonomics

JR Rehab Occupational Therapy Consultants have experience in office and industrial ergonomic assessments.

Ergonomic assessments and intervention can help decrease the risk of workplace musculoskeletal disorders. We implement assessments or interventions as a preventative measure or as part of a return to work program after an employee has had an injury. Ergonomic education for employees can also increase awareness of work behaviors that may contribute to injuries, thus giving employees increased responsibility for their own health in the workplace.

Medical Legal

JR Rehab provides medical legal services that include Cost of Future Care Assessments and Reports, Case Management, Assessment of Functional Cognition and Independent Living Skills Assessments.
