Briar Shaw

Vancouver Island OT Team Manager

After completing her Bachelor of Science Degree from King’s University in 1998, Briar attended the University of Alberta and finished her Occupational Therapy Degree in 2002. Over the course of the last 12 years, Briar has gained a wealth of experience problem solving in a variety of remote and challenging settings in Northern Alberta. Briar has experience with seating, wound care clinics, pediatrics, homecare, and dysphagia. She thoroughly enjoys working with geriatric clients and thrives on a dynamic caseload. Her family has recently moved to Vancouver Island and she is busy discovering the many beaches with her husband and three active girls! She loves running, bicycling, kayaking, and hiking.

Charlotte Mah

Type: Physiotherapists

Charlotte finished her Masters of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia after having completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. Prior to becoming a Physiotherapist, Charlotte coached recreational gymnastics and had experience working as a Kinesiologist on the Lower Mainland. Since 2014, she has been working in private practice in Nanaimo.

Charlotte enjoys working with clients of all ages and abilities. Her goal is to use a treatment approach that combines manual therapy, needling techniques, electrophysical modalities, education, and exercise in order to treat the whole person and address the underlying cause of dysfunction. Since graduation, Charlotte has completed courses in manual therapy, soft tissue release, acupuncture, and functional dry needling. She is also continuing to pursue further education in manual therapy through the Canadian Orthopedic Division.

Claudia Maldonado

Type: Occupational Therapists

Claudia was born in Chile but grew up in Edmonton, Alberta where she obtained her bachelors of science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Alberta in 1999.  Claudia has dedicated the last 16 years working in various hospitals throughout the lower mainland and Vancouver Island. One of her interests lies in the rehabilitation of people who have obtained neurological impairments such as stroke or head injuries.  She strongly believes in client centredness and that rehabilitation is most effective in the individual’s home and in their own community after being discharged from the hospital.  Claudia has over 4 years of experience working in post-stroke rehabilitation. She has worked with individuals of all ages from infants to geriatrics. Claudia joined JR Rehab in September of 2016 and is excited with the possibilities that are now open to her in terms of community based rehabilitation.  Claudia is fluent in Spanish and enjoys spending her free time with her two young kids.

Matthew Habib

Type: Occupational Therapists

Matthew grew up in Toronto, Ontario and completed his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Thereafter, he completed his Master’s in Occupational Therapy at McMaster University. Matthew has been part of the team since September of 2017, and in his practice he strives to enable clients to reach their highest potential in occupations of which they find meaning. Through clinical experience and education, Matthew continually recognizes the importance of practicing holistically and in a way that truly puts the client at the center.

Matthew enjoys cooking and baking, as well as bicycling.

Nicole Law

Type: Rehab Assistants & Kinesiologists

Nicole graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science. She then completed her American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Physiologist Certification. Nicole’s previous experience encompassed assessment, exercise prescription and treatment. Nicole was responsible for delivering and supervising the active rehabilitation program for athletes and client returning to work. She enjoys making physical activity fun and engaging clients as well as educating people on correct body mechanics and movement patterns. She loves biking, rock climbing and soccer during her spare time.

Tamara Rae

Type: Occupational Therapists

As an occupational therapy graduate in 1990, Tamara has over 25 years of experience. She started her career working in various hospitals in BC and New Zealand in acute care and long term care, working with orthopaedic, medical and neurological conditions. In most recent years she has developed a broad depth of experience in return to work services in areas such as chronic pain, soft tissue, orthopaedic, ergonomics and early return to work programs. Tamara enjoys working with a diverse caseload and values engaging clients to reach positive outcomes.

Tamara has recently moved to Vancouver Island and is excited to explore the Island by sampling local food, hiking, cycling, kayaking and taking photos along the way.
